EGX Experience

After a long five days, I’m finally home from EGX. I was planning on creating this website and blog before i left for EGX but became to busy when i was prepping for travel and trying to make sure i stay ahead with my University projects.

EGX was an aboslute fantasic experience in both terms of fun and productivity. Unfortunately we didnt win anything, ‘Book of Abomonations’ was just amazing project that rightfully deserved to take home tons of prizes!

Rags & Richie was a great experience to work on and allowed me to learn so much about UI/UX design and being mentored by a wide variety of games industry people was great as everyone was super kind, helpful and offered me so much advice on how i can improve my work. I learnt so much from everyone i spoke with and had fun whilst doing it. Despite not working on level design, i feel like i learnt so much different skills from others and myself that i can bring back into my own work.

Previously i only ever attended conventions as a visitor, so switching the roles and having my own booth and having hundreds of people come up and enjoy our game. I was extremly happy with how different people interacted with the game. My absolute favourtie was a father and daughter who played together and he used the game as a teaching oppurtunity to teach her how to barter and teaching maths. We designed the game to be able to be played by anyone from any age so being able to see that in action and it also being used a teaching tool made me super happy.

The only disapointing aspect was all of the people asking “Where can i buy it, Steam?” and having to answer it was only available to on Itch.io and saying that we will be potentially creating a mobile version and finishing the product but it will be a while away due to our final year projects. We did get a lot of people to download it through Itch.io which was great!

I’m really grateful that myself and my team members were able to partcipate in the Dare Academy Finals as i feel like i’ve improved so much and gained so much industry experience and met so many amazing people whilst at EGX. I really hope i get to go back someday!
